About
Guangchangwu is a form of public group dancing widely practiced in China and in Chinese communities overseas. It combines rhythmic movement, music, physical activity, and social interaction, commonly taking place in parks, plazas, residential areas, and other shared public spaces.
In English-language sources the practice is also called Chinese square dancing or plaza dancing. It is not the same tradition as Western social square dance, though the English word "square" appears in many media headlines. Dancing usually happens in open public areas with portable speakers, and participants organize informally as well as through community groups.
